So You Got Your Building Permit, Now What?
As I’ve mentioned before this whole permitting process is new to Ben and I. So I thought I’d lay out what it looks like from here in case there are others out there who are also new to this and feel like they’re wading in some pretty deep waters. We’ve been feeling like everything has been on hold the last couple of weeks. We had finished most of the cosmetic work that could be done and were waiting to get our building permit approved so that our plumber could come in and work. It finally happened yesterday. The inspector, Stuart, came in, took a look around and decided we’re ready to go and now we’re back on track.
We started by politely bugging our plumber and electrician to pull their permits. Our plumber will have an inspector take a look at our dish pit to confirm the size of grease trap we need and then, fingers crossed, he’ll get started on ground work by the end of this week.
It took two full months to get to this point and now these are our next steps to opening:
Plumbing ground work to be done.
Plumbing inspector comes to approve the ground work.
Bathroom and butcher holes will be filled
Ben and I will finish the cosmetic work and move all equipment into place
Final electrical work will be done and the electrical inspector will come to approve the work.
Stuart will come and complete his final inspection so that our business licence can be issued
Vancouver Coastal Health will come inspect and approve our change of food permit.
WE GET TO OPEN OUR DOORS!
As you can see we still have a few steps and inspections to get through but Stuart has assured us that the hard part is behind us and things should go fairly quickly now.
